Carla Sams, Everyday Hero

Responsibility is the key word for this month’s Everyday Hero, Carla Sams. Carla is a salon owner, mother of 2 and wife among many other things. When Carla started coaching a couple of months ago she felt disorganized with her life, she had no structures and was literally just going through the motions every day.

She began to realize that maybe she wasn’t all that good of a listener to her husband and her staff. She was completely afraid of responsibility in any way shape or form. She didn’t pay attention to the things that were important, but instead, hid to avoid having to deal with it. Trust in herself and her abilities and trusting other people was definitely out of the question.

She started to realize from the coaching that she had trouble letting people into her life. She has always been friendly and nice, but it was basically the shield that she kept up for herself to keep herself safe and not let people truly into her life. Carla thought that she was a good communicator and was always good at making the ‘To Do’ lists, but yet nothing got completed.

She wasn’t sure why she had feared responsibility so much in her life and as she went through some of the processes inside of her coaching sessions, she became more aware of herself and her actions and how they affected the other people around her. She said: “I am not who I thought I was; I had my wall up and wasn’t even giving people a chance.” Carla started recognizing and paying attention to those internal conversations that she was having with herself, she started really listening fully to the people in her life and started taking things on for herself.

Carla now has structures in place for her to really achieve her personal and professional goals. She takes the time to review her promises and practices every day so that she stays present to the new life that she is creating for herself.  Since she has started coaching she said that her life improved; she is not as stressed out and overwhelmed. She stated: “I don’t just sit around and make excuses for myself anymore, I go get things done!”

Her relationship with her husband has shifted tremendously with her communication to him and they keep growing closer and closer. Projects are getting complete around her home and business and she really feels that she has improved her confidence at work and the relationship with her staff. She continues to build those muscles for herself through her coaching and is looking forward to continuing to grow her business, going on vacation (while the salon runs itself) and continuing to take on the next household improvements.
